The 15 states with the highest real estate taxes are a little spendy, but they’re also among the nicest places to live. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a little for a suitable home.
Hawaii

At well over $900 Hawaii is actually one of the cheaper places to live in terms of real estate taxes. But it’s still tough to keep up with everything if you’re not careful.
Alabama

The lowest entry on this list, Alabama does feel as though it’s the cheapest place to live among the states selected. Still, that’s a lot to pay per year for some.
Colorado

$2,900 isn’t a small price for a lot of people when it comes to real estate taxes. But since the median home value in this state is around half a million, it kind of makes sense.
Wyoming

The median value of a home isn’t quite that much in this state. But the taxes reach upward of $1,400, so it’s dirt cheap.
Louisiana

Homes in Louisiana, or at least the median value, aren’t that much. But the taxes manage to reach well over $1k yearly.
South Carolina

There must be something about various states that are attractive to many people. Over $2k in property taxes feels unreal.
West Virginia

Believe it or not, this doesn’t top the list of taxes that reach over $3k. Home values are well over $500k, so this is an expensive state to live in apparently.
Utah

This state feels like a middle-of-the-road place to live in terms of cost. But it’s not cheap, that’s for sure.
Nevada

It’s not the type of state that everyone will find enjoyable, but Nevada is kind of spendy. With annual taxes at nearly $1,400, it’s not that bad, but it’s tough to pay unless one has the means.
Delaware

This state is most definitely on the pricier side since the property taxes reach well over $2k on average. But for some reason, some find Delaware quite nice.
District of Columbia

True, it’s not a state, but it is an important part of the USA. With that said, it’s surprisingly not one of the most expensive areas, though it’s not dirt cheap either.
Arizona

This is another part of the country where people have flocked for one reason or another. With property taxes that reach over $2,500 annually, it’s easy to see that one should be a hard worker or well-funded if they want to live here.
Arkansas

Home values aren’t all that high surprisingly, but property taxes aren’t murderous either. It’s the type of state that one can live in without breaking the bank.
Idaho

This is a bit of a surprise since the median home value is well over $800k. The annual taxes are above $5k on average, which is insane.
Tennessee

Like other states on this list, Tennessee requires a healthy influx of capital to thrive as a homeowner. It’s a great state without any doubt, it’s just expensive to live there.
