At one time, Louis Gossett Jr. was a megastar since he showed up in so many movies. But as a DI he was absolutely savage.
Jarhead-Staff Sergeant Fitch
For the short time he shows up in this movie, Fitch is brutal. Several real DIs have stated that his actions aren’t realistic, but it’s still entertaining.
Forrest Gump-Drill Sergeant
This guy was just kind of amusing since he’s supposed to come off as rough but it’s more comical than anything. Still, Forrest impressed him, so it was fun to watch.
Private Benjamin-Sergeant L.C. Ross
This might not have been the best representation in the eyes of some but it was good enough to make the list. In her heyday, Goldie Hawn had the chance to work with a few very intriguing characters.
Major Payne-Major Benson Winifred Payne
So yes, this is way over the top since most of the stuff Major Payne does would be a no-go. But in the spirit of comedy, this movie is nothing short of great.
Stripes-Sergeant 1st Class Hulka
This guy feels like another old dog who was great because he didn’t take things too far but knew when to take a recruit to task. As one of the best drill instructors, he’s great since his level of discipline was impressive.
The D.I.-Gunner Sergeant Jim Moore
One thing about DIs is that they’re tasked with making a soldier out of everyone under their command. As it’s shown in this movie though, not everyone starts with the can-do attitude.
In the Army Now-Sergeant Ladd
Pauly Shore would have likely been booted out of the army for many of the things he did in this movie. But his DI still worked with him and provided another bit of comedy that made this movie fun.
Starship Troopers-Sergeant Zim
Zim is another DI who would probably be held accountable for his actions since his recruits were constantly in need of a medic. But he did get results, that’s for certain.
