Unexplained phenomena are experiences that occur to numerous people that defy logical understanding. These involve unexplainable deaths, disappearances, actions, and natural occurrences. Here are 15 unexplained phenomena that have left people both fascinated and puzzled.

Déjà Vu

Deja vu is a common experience that is typically described as the feeling that the present time has been lived before. Despite its popular occurrence, it is reported in 60-80% of individuals, its actual cause is still a topic of interest for researchers. Psychological theories, for example, claim that Deja Vu might be a “glitch” in the brain’s memory system.

SHC cases usually imply that the victim gets burnt by the fire while objects nearby are minimally damaged. A very popular case occurred in 1951 involving Mary Reeser, who got burnt to ashes with no clear indication of ignition. The SHC talks about the ‘wick effect’, which refers to the human body as an inside-out candle and says adipose tissues cause a fire.

Bermuda Triangle

In the 1960s, Vincent Gaddis popularized the Bermuda Triangle in his writings about incidents involving ship and aircraft disappearances. Numerous theories, such as rogue waves, methane hydrates, and magnetic fields, have been suggested over the years, but the ultimate mystery of the Bermuda Triangle is still far from being revealed.

Sleep Paralysis

A common symptom of sleep paralysis is the feeling of a malevolent presence in the room. A person may also hallucinate being touched or dragged out of bed. Since sleep paralysis involves rapid eye movement sleep, experts believe it happens when the brain wakes up from REM sleep while the body is still paralyzed.

Out-of-Body Experiences (OBEs)

Out-of-body experiences are typically reported by those who have experienced near-death incidents and those whose minds are unraveled by the power of drugs or meditation. It is thought that an OBE is a type of hallucination that occurs when one’s usual consciousness-processing centers become disorganized.

Ball Lightning

Witnesses describe ball lightning as a floating glowing sphere with a diameter of a pea to a few meters. It has an erratic motion, can pass through walls, and disappears silently after an explosion. Theories like microwave cavities and silicon combustion hypotheses still cannot fully explain ball lightning.

The Taos Hum

The sound is classified as a hum, a low-frequency, droning noise that is frequently compared to a diesel engine idling far off. Although investigations have failed to reveal exactly where the sound is coming from, others have proposed that it be caused by anything from tinnitus and electromagnetic radiation to top-secret government projects.

Marian Apparitions

One of the most famous Marian apparitions is the Miracle of the Sun, observed in 1917 in Fátima when thousands of people saw the sun dancing in the sky. Such apparitions ultimately become major religious and cultural symbols. However, skeptics claim that they can be just a result of phenomenon such as mass suggestion, optical illusions, and so on.

Crop Circles

The designs observed in crop circles vary from simple circles to complex geometric shapes. Some researchers assert that natural phenomenon such as wind vortices and even animal actions could account for crop circles. However, several others argue that the complexity and precision observed in some designs suggest intelligent design.

The Philadelphia Experiment

Legend has it that the U.S. Navy conducted an experiment to create a technology that makes ships invisible to radar. The story says that the USS Eldridge was teleported from Philadelphia to Norfolk, Virginia and that all team members experienced serious physical and psychological side effects. Nevertheless, this story is highly dubious and is considered a hoax.

Mass Hysteria

One example of mass hysteria is the Salem Witch trial, where a group of girls in Massachusetts exhibited strange behavior, which led to many people being accused of witchcraft, sparking a wave of hysteria. According to Goffman, mass hysteria is often a social phenomenon where stress and fear lead to a rapid spread of symptoms within a community.

Telepathy

Though a number of scientists have carried out various experiments involving card guessing and Ganzfeld studies, commonly known as telepathy, there is no scientific evidence to prove that telepathy exists. Moreover, critics of parapsychology claim that such phenomena can result from biased study designs, methodological flaws, statistical anomalies, or absolute fraud.

Precognition

Precognition is the ability to see the future. However, there are many stories that have signs of precognition, such as forewarnings of various disasters or personal events. There are currently no significant evidence groups or scientific tests, such as random number generators, that prove their existence. However, precognition remains a subject of both fascination and skepticism.

Mysterious Disappearances

There are instances where people, boats, or airplanes disappeared with no trace of what happened. For example, the Mary Celeste crew went missing for no known reason. Another example is the lost colony of Roanoke, where a whole settlement of people disappeared overnight. These examples are mysterious because there is no solid answer to where they went.

Unexplained Animal Behaviors

For instance, mass whale strandings are mysterious cases when groups of whales commit suicide by stranding themselves on shores for no obvious reason. Although some explanations include errors in navigation and sonar issues, none have been able to provide proof. Furthermore, the specific mechanisms of navigation abilities of birds and monarch butterflies are not yet fully understood.
