Duck Dynasty is one of the most successful reality television shows to come out on American television. Almost everyone in the world knew about these American hillbillies that ended up making a fortune selling duck calls used for hunting ducks and used the reality show to profit even more. Although the Robertson family revealed a lot of their lives on the show, there is a good bit of knowledge that people don't know about the family behind Duck Commander. There are many interesting facts about the family, such as their unusual upbringing, that will have you wondering if they are the same family from the past.

Willie and Korie Robertson were actually owners of a church camp that they ran in their town every year until Willie became CEO of Duck Commander. The couple is devoted Christians who love to spread the word of God and are deeply involved in the local churches. 

If you ever watched Duck Dynasty, then you should remember seeing Si with his cup full of iced tea, but many of you might wonder if there is a story behind the cup. Well, there is; Si's mother gave him that same cup when he was stationed during the Vietnam War and he has kept the cup ever since then. 

You might have noticed that the men in Duck Dynasty all wear different colored or styled bandanas. The reason was that the show's producers had a very hard time telling all of the guys apart from one another and decided that they needed to wear different bandanas as it was easier to tell them apart. 

Something that is not commonly known is that Si is actually married and has been for over 50 years. Si's sweetheart is named Christine, and the couple had known each other their whole lives as they grew up together when they were children. One of the main reasons why Si never wanted to show Christine on Duck Dynasty was because he thought that it would be too much for her to handle as the days of filming were long. 

It isn't that hard to tell that the Robertsons are a church-going family, and that is something that they learned from Phil, who hasn't always followed the way of God but has respected the church community for years, which has given him a good reputation. Phil is so close with his church that he is actually an elder and has become a local speaker at his church. 

Something that you might not have known is that Phil Robertson actually played football with Terry Bradshaw when they were in college. Phil and Terry played for Louisiana Tech during the 1960s, and Phil was actually on par with Terry and could have taken his spot on the roster. But Phil decided to go on a hunting trip and missed his opportunity to show everyone his skills.

According to Jase and Missy Robertson, one of the reasons why they got together in the first place was because Jase was trying to get back at his ex-girlfriend, who ended up being Missy's best friend at the time. The two started dating on a whim but ended up becoming serious which led to them getting married. The couple looks back on the past and is quite surprised that they actually fell in love and got married in the end.  

Phil and Miss Kay Robertson married at a very young age and ended up having children early as well. The couple met in high school; Phil was a football player while Miss Kay was a cheerleader. The couple hit it off immediately and knew that they wanted to be with each other, so they ended up getting married at the age of 16 and had their first child only a couple of years later. 

The show's producers thought that Duck Dynasty was going to be an immediate success upon its release, but that wasn't the case. The show's ratings were not that great for the first couple of episodes and this was mostly due to the small amount of marketing the show had at first, but once people started finding out about the show, it really blew up.  

Ever since Duck Dynasty became one of the most popular shows in America, the Robertsons have been able to travel around more than they could possibly imagine, but one thing that they didn't see coming was that their appearance would be judged. Several of the Robertsons have been mistaken for homeless men when they are out in public and have even been kicked out of certain establishments.  

You might have known that the Robertsons are pretty well off, but people tend to look over how much money the family has actually raked in. All of the family members took advantage of opportunities to make money from the show, and now most of them are multi-millionaires. 

It is kind of hard to believe that Jase was a virgin until he married Missy, but the couple thought that it was a sin to partake in sex before they were married. Phil Robertson had a pretty crazy past before he became a devoted Christian. Before Duck Dynasty and Duck Commander, the Robertson men were all clean-shaven and didn't sport any beards for quite a while. 

Jep and Jessica Robertson have quite a big family as they have four biological children and an adopted boy named Gus. The two wanted to adopt a child that was less fortunate and decided to welcome Gus into the family with open arms. 

Reed Robertson is the son of Jase and Missy and is a talented country singer that is trying to make it big. Reed was introduced to us in the first season of Duck Dynasty, and at first, wasn't too happy about being extremely popular and went through some hard times when he was younger. Luckily, he was able to get some help with therapy which helped to get him out of his slump.

You would think that Si would be the type that wouldn't even try college, but that is not the case as Si actually attended Lusiana Tech for a couple of semesters. Although Si was accepted to college, he didn't end up staying there too long as he loved partying more than schoolwork and, after a couple of semesters, decided to drop out as he thought school wasn't for him. 

It is a pretty common fact that the Robertson family loves to attend church and take their religion very seriously. The Robertsons believe that church and God are what keep them in line, and without both, they would probably all be alcoholics. Phil is the one that instilled religion into the family as he was wild when he was younger and knew that the church was the main reason he became a better person. 

Since Phil is one of the most religious men out of the Robertson family, he is qualified to baptize people. Phil has baptized over 300 people over the years at his local church and is considered one of the prominent elders of the church. 

When Willie first told Jase about the creation of the show Duck Dynasty, Jase didn't believe that the show was going to be a hit and actually talked down on it for a while. Jase thought that nobody would be interested in their lives and their duck-calling company. At first, the show didn't do that well, and that made Jase believe that the family was tricked by the producers. 

Although Duck Dynasty was one of the most successful shows on the A&E Network, the Robertsons were making a majority of their money off of merchandise that was sold almost everywhere. Since Duck Dynasty was so popular at the time, the Robertsons capitalized on their fame. Jessica Robertson was a partier in college, which is entirely unexpected as she is one of the most mellow on the show. But Jessica was just like Jep when she was younger and loved to party it up. Jessica even admitted that she was very wild and was glad that she ended up meeting Jep as he was a big help in making her a better person. 

When Phil was going through his wild phase when he was younger, Miss Kay thought about leaving him for good as she heard rumors that he was messing around with other girls. She was also getting sick and tired of him getting into trouble with the law and his obsessive drinking.

The Robertson family had no idea how big Duck Dynasty was actually going to become and the money they would be raking in. The whole family went through a little hiccup and almost broke up due to the fame of the show. Money started getting into everyone's heads, and the family started fighting about how big of a piece of the company they would get. 

When Jep Robertson was in high school he started hanging around the wrong group of people and started using drugs and alcohol. It only took a few years before Jep was actually addicted to drinking and partying; his wife was going through the same thing when she was younger as well. 

You would think that Willie is the founder of Duck Commander, but that glory actually goes to his father, Phil. But Willie is really behind building the company and making it what it is today with his hard work and networking. The company was founded in 1972 by Phil but didn't turn into the monster it is today until Willie came on board.

Although the Robertsons will always say that their show is different from others because there isn't a script, that isn't true. Duck Dynasty is just as scripted as any reality television show, but most of the time, the Robertsons are just acting like themselves. 

The Roberston family loves to hunt, and it has been something they have done ever since they were children. Of course, Phil and Si taught the boys how to hunt, and they learned everything they could from them. The Robertsons always wanted their own piece of land to hunt on and never thought they would one day own over 100 acres. 

The Robertsons have always been big supporters of the military and have visited multiple bases around the country and world to cheer up the soldiers on duty. Not only do they visit bases regularly, but they have made considerable contributions to wounded soldiers and their families. 

Everyone knows that Phil Robertson isn't afraid to say what is on his mind. One thing that Phil has frequently expressed is that he is not a fan of atheists as he is a devoted Christian and strongly believes that anyone that doesn't believe in God will go to hell. It isn't the first time Phil has judged people, and it is one of the reasons why a lot of people like Phil. 

Although the family was consumed by fame, Willie was the worst out of them all and almost was disowned by his family because of his actions. Willie thought that he was the reason why Duck Dynasty became so popular and started making problems with his family members. He was also spending an insane amount of money which led the family to believe that he was being consumed by fame. 

Since Phil Robertson is a prominent conservative, he wound up in one of Steve Bannon's films. Phil ended up starring in Torchbearer, which was released in 2016 and was about Phil going around the world interviewing people about Chritainy and the word of God. The film was co-directed by Steve Bannon, who has been a close friend to Phil and knew that he would be the perfect person to star in the show. 

Si Robertson was drafted into the military during the Vietnam War, and this was a surprise to him as he was always partying before, but it was a wake-up call that made him a man. Si was stationed out in Vietnam until the end of the war and ended up serving 20 years in the military, where he was able to get the rank of  Sergeant First Class. 

The Robertsons aren't too keen on personal hygiene. They have been interviewed several times and stated that they don't care too much about hygiene but have improved over the years since the show's start. Phil believes that being dirty makes you healthier, and he doesn't see the sense of showering every day if you are going to be out in the bush. 

John Luke Robertson got married at a young age, just like his parents and grandparents did before him. John ended up getting married to Mary Kate when they were both just 19 years old. The two fell in love when they were in high school and decided to tie the knot. 

WHOA That's Good is the name of Sadie Robertson's podcast that she decided to start once Duck Dynasty was finished. The podcast has become one of the top on iTunes and has good ratings across the board. The podcast is about how to start your own ministry as well as many other topics such as marriage and the way to let God into your life. 

When Duck Dynasty was airing, every business wanted to have a commercial during the show as the rating were extremely high. It cost between $150,000 to $200,000 just to air a commercial that was a couple of minutes during Duck Dynasty, and the crazy thing is that it was actually hard to secure a spot. 

Uncle Si was a bit camera shy when the show was first filmed, and the producers had to hide cameras to get a genuine reaction out of him. He thought that it wasn't a good idea to have himself on the show, but once he realized that he had a fan following, the real Si came out of him. 

Asides from being a fantastic football player, Phil Robertson is also highly educated. He has a master's degree in education from Louisiana Tech and even was a teacher for a couple of years. His education helped him start Duck Commander and is a big reason why he is such a prominent figure.  

Asides from Sadie having her own podcast, she decided to get into fashion as she had no interest in working for Duck Commander. Sadie was able to score a gig working for Sherri Hill as a dress designer. Both of her parents were happy for her as she was able to do something that she had always wanted to do. 

When Duck Commander was first started, they would be lucky to sell about 60,000 duck calls per year, but after Duck Dynasty aired, the company was able to sell about 600,000 duck calls per year. This dramatically increased the value of the company and the pockets of all the Robertsons.
