Here is Your Holiday Tipping Chart

The holidays are near, and that means it’s time to start making your list. I’d tell you to check it twice, but we all know that you’ll check it at least 345 times because you know you’re forgetting someone, don’t want to forget anyone, and you’ll always find at least three people to add to it. While this is a time of year that is supposed to be all about love and kindness and generosity, it’s really just stressful for moms and women, because we’re the ones who have to think about all the small details and the shopping. Add to that the fact that we know we have to tip some people, but we aren’t sure how much. Here is a cheat sheet to help you learn what you should tip the people who regularly service you throughout the year.

Apartment Living

If you live in an apartment building, you have to tip your superintendent. The typical amount to give him at the holidays is between $20 and $100, depending on what he’s done to help you throughout the year.

Your doorman is another person you have to tip. It’s another $20 to $100 for him. If your building has more than one doorman, it is appropriate to give them around $20 a piece. However, $50 is the average for doormen.

Delivery People

Your newspaper delivery person is subject to a tip of $10 to $30 each holiday season.

Your mail person’s tip is generally around $20.

Service Providers

If you use a regular babysitter, consider giving her the gift of one night’s pay for the holidays.

Your child’s caregiver should get something between $25 and $75. If he or she has more than one, think on the lower end of that for each. If he or she only has one, then think higher.
