Things to Remember When Planning Your Wedding

You found the man of your dreams, he put the ring of your dreams on your finger while asking the question you dreamed of your entire life, and now it’s time to plan the wedding of your dreams. Many women look forward to planning their wedding, only to realize that it is far more stressful than they ever anticipated. Having planned my own wedding, which went off without a hitch more than seven years ago, I am here to tell you that yes, your wedding day is important. However, it’s not as important as your actual marriage, so take a deep breath, calm down, and listen to me.

Your wedding day is going to be perfect, even if it’s not. Unless your groom says “I don’t” your wedding day is perfect; remember that. It isn’t about the flowers or the dress (though they are fabulous extras) it’s about your happiness and love. Now that you know that, you can start planning if you promise me you’ll remember a few things.

Live by Your List

Make a list of everything you envision for your wedding and take a good, long look at that list. Now that you know exactly what you want, compare it to your budget and start making plans. Knowing exactly what you can afford, exactly what you want, and exactly where you need to save money by doing things yourself will make this day much easier to plan.

This is Not the Day That Will Make or Break Your Life

Sure, you want your wedding to be perfect, but if your flowers are wrong (like mine) and your bartender is a little too generous with the vodka (I wish) it’s not the end of your life. It’s just the beginning.

Don’t Diet

If you want to lose a few pounds, then by all means go ahead. However, unless you plan on making a complete lifestyle change because you want to be fit and healthy forever, don’t diet for your wedding. The lack of sugar and carbs in addition to wedding planning is going to make you crazy. And a bridezilla is no one’s friend, trust me.

Let It Go

There is no such thing as a perfect seating chart. There is no such thing as flawless. Your cake will probably have a miniscule tilt to it that only you notice and maybe your officiant will have a few too many glasses of wine at cocktail hour. It doesn’t matter. No one notices if your shoes are five inches instead of five and a half. Just let go of the small stuff. Is your groom standing at the end of the aisle beaming at you with love and devotion as a tear forms in his eye? Then you’re fine, sister. Now suck it up and smile.
