Surprising Second Uses for Household Products

As a person who really does not like clutter, I wish everything in my house had a second use. Actually, I wish I could have one chair in my house and it would do everything from dust to mop to folding laundry. Since that’s not going to happen anytime soon (unless it does, in which case I would be the happiest person alive) we have to find other uses for things we have around the house so that we don’t end up with so much clutter we are the season premiere of next season’s “Hoarders”. Fortunately for all of us, I have a few secrets that will help you save a little space beneath the kitchen sink, since these household products have dual purposes.

Laundry Stain Remover

You use it to pre-treat your favorite shirt when your kids decide it would look much better with peanut butter and jelly stripes on the back, and you can use it to remove sticky messes in other places. Purchase a photo frame and want to hang it up, but find that your face is covered by the sticky goop left over from the price tag? Use your laundry stain remover to get it off in an instant.

Foaming Carpet Cleaner

A few summers ago I decided I needed to have a pair of six inch black and white polka Christian Louboutin espadrilles. I love them to the ends of the Earth and back, but they are starting to look a little dirty. How does one clean a pair of shoes that expensive without having a heart attack in the process? With foaming carpet cleaner, that’s how. Spray it on and wipe it in gently with a toothbrush, leave it for 30 minutes, and rinse them off. They’re as clean as they were the day I bought them.

Furniture Polish

Your wood furniture looks amazing (for five seconds before your kids realized that you cleaned it and they must absolutely cover it with their handprints immediately) so why can’t your sinks look the same? You can clean them all day long, but the second you run water in your sink it looks dull again. Spray it with a little furniture polish to make it as shiny as can be.
