Paring Down and Living Simply Saves More Than Just Money

living simply

I say it all the time; when you have no clutter in life, life is that much easier. For many people, stuff is a habit. It’s a bad habit, too. Not only does stuff clutter up your home and your mind, it also has a lasting negative effect on your finances. When you buy things and stuff just to buy it, you waste money. When you waste money, you fill your mind with random thoughts and even regret. When your house has a bunch of needless stuff in it, it’s more difficult to keep it clean and orderly and that can cause you to feel annoyed, stressed and even give you headaches (and hello medical bills for all that stuff). That’s why we are here to tell you that paring down the ‘stuff’ in your home is going to save you more than just money; and we will tell you why.

Monetary Savings

Sometimes it’s difficult for me to walk into Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware or even Crate and Barrel or Home Goods and not buy all the stuff. It’s so pretty and I need more throw pillows and wine glasses and candles, right? Wrong; I do not. I have 797398 wine glasses and only two of us drink wine regularly. When you know what you need vs. what you want, you can save a lot of money and keep your house looking that much better.

Health Savings

It’s probably another form of monetary savings, but when you live in a house that’s clean, simple and organized, you will find that you feel less overwhelmed, anxious and stressed. When you feel less of these things, you have fewer headaches, a stronger immune system and far fewer medical bills. Really; having less stuff can save you a trip to the doctor.

Quality of Life Savings

How often do you spend looking for things you cannot find in a house you cannot seem to organize? How often do you find that you are stressed and overwhelmed and out of your depths in a home you cannot control? If you could control the clutter in your life and make it as streamlined and as simple as possible, I bet you could spend more time doing things you really enjoy, such as spending time with your kids and your family. That will increase your quality of life and make you a lot happier in the long run.
