Easy Ways to Make Yourself Happier and Be Nicer

There are days when we all wish we could be a little nicer. Sometimes our lack of nice behavior is completely justified and on other occasions our poor behavior is merely a result of too much anxiety, too much stress, and not enough happiness in our lives. When you find that you are in a cranky mood more often than not, you can change your behavior, be nicer, and ultimately be happier than you currently are. All you have to do is make it a habit to try to do something nice for everyone on a daily basis. Here are a few nice things you can do that will help you feel happier and less cranky.

Do something nice for a coworker. If you know your coworker loves a frappucino from a nearby coffee shop, but she’s always running late and never has time to stop and grab one, do it for her. Your kindness will make her smile and it will make you feel a little better about yourself.

Offer to stay late the next time a friend or family member has a party. Help clean up so your friend doesn’t have to stay up for the next three hours doing it herself, or wake up in the morning to face the daunting task of cleaning up after all the people who forgot what the trash bin looks like.

Make eye contact and smile. Studies show that this is the simplest method of making yourself happier and making others happier. Think about how you feel when someone you don’t know takes the time to make eye contact and offer a genuine smile to you. It makes you feel important and good about yourself. From now on, make it a point to do this to everyone from the dry cleaner to the check out girl at the supermarket.
