Make Your Home Off Limits To Theft And Burglary

Burglary and theft rates are on the rise and it is worrisome to all of us.  We work hard for what we have and it understandably makes us angry to think that someone might come in and take things we have worked so hard for.  There is also the possibility we could be home while a theft takes place and that we and our loved ones could be injured.  While there is nothing we can do to make our homes completely off-limits to theft, there are many things we can do to discourage theft from happening to us.

Install deadbolts on your doors.  Locks on knobs are good but let’s face it, anyone with a credit card can break in.  How do I know this?  I have broke into my own home this way after accidentally locking myself out.  Deadbolts are not easy to get around.

Install home security systems. There is really is just no replacement for a good security system.  Most of them have many options to choose from.  There are options for when you are home, when you are away and when you need immediate help.  When you have a security system, you can rest assured you are doing all you can to keep your home protected from theft and burglary. In addition, a safe installation may also help provide you with peace of mind knowing that your valuables are secure.

Get a dog, a big one preferably.  Most criminals will admit that a dog is a big deterrent to breaking into a home.  It is best to have your dog trained to be aware of strangers and alert you to their presence.

Be aware and be vigilant.  This is very important.  You can take all the precautionary steps in the world but if you aren’t aware of your surroundings and vigilant to use security measures it won’t help. Be sure to lock your doors and turn your security systems on when you leave.

A little prevention will go a long way in preventing a theft.
