How To Make Homemade Cheese Crackers

For a special afternoon snack or something for your kiddos to take to school, try making these delicious homemade cheese crackers brought to us courtesy of In the Kitchen with Kath.

Before this recipe I never even thought about making my own cheese crackers but, thankfully after pinning this photo, now I do and I can. And it’s quite easy to do! So, no more buying boxes after boxes of specialty snack crackers because now you can make your own and they’re so much healthier to eat.

Here’s what you’ll need: (Makes about 70 1-inch square crackers)

  • 1½ cups (6 oz) of grated extra-sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) of unsalted butter, softened and cut into pieces
  • ¾ cup (90 g) of flour, plus more for dusting
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon of milk

Here’s what to do:

First, preheat the oven at 350 degrees.

Grab all the ingredients, except for the milk, and throw them in the food processor. Pulse the processer, for about 6 times for about 5 seconds at a time. The dough should turn into coarse crumbs.

Add the milk to the mixture and process until the dough gathers together in a ball.

Roll the dough out on a floured pastry board  until it is about 1/8 inch thick.

Cut the dough into 1-inch squares. Use the flat end of a wooden skewer to poke a hole in the center of each cracker.

Place the crackers at least ¼ inch apart on parchment paper on a baking sheet.

Bake for 12 – 15 minutes until the edges are just starting to turn brown.

Allow the crackers to cool completely before taking them off the cooling rack.

Eat! Eat! Eat!

Store the leftovers in a plastic container for snacking!
